Faculty Library Services: MVC Library Mobile Cart

Here at Mountain View we strive to provide a wide range of services and materials to promote learning and research by our students as well as our faculty. This guide features a number of services we offer to faculty that can help with the teaching proces

Purpose

The MVC Library Mobile Cart will serve the following purposes:

  • Book check out in the classroom for items placed on hold for a class.
  • Display and check out books at MVC events.
  • Provide a roaming librarian station in which students can receive face-to-face, one-on-one research instruction.

Request a Classroom Checkout Event

  1. Email mvclibrary@dcccd.edu to request a day and time in which you would like the mobile cart to come to your classroom.
  2. Include the following information in the email:
    1. Your name
    2. Discipline
    3. Room Number
    4. Day
    5. Time
  3. Student preparation procedures
    1. At least one week before class either request a short fifteen-minute, librarian-led presentation on how to place a hold, or walk the students through the process yourself.  Librarians are also available to provide instruction on how to use a book for assignments.
    2. When students place the request they must add the instructor’s name and delivery time (Baker, 12 pm) in the “Comments” section.  Without this information, the book will be placed on the library’s hold shelf for pickup.
    3. Allow time for students to place a holds if your room has computers.  Students can use the mobile catalog to place holds on their devices as well.
    4. Remind students to bring either a MVC ID or a government issued picture ID on the day of checkout.  Students without an ID cannot checkout
  4. You will receive an email within 2 days either confirming or denying the mobile carts availability.
