MVC Library 101: Group Study Room Guidelines

Group Study Room Guidelines

Purpose:

There are 4 group study rooms at the Mountain View College (MVC) Library. Each room is a privately enclosed space, allowing groups of 8 or less to work together without disturbing other patrons. MV students can use these room to study in groups or work collaboratively on projects.

Reservations:

Reservations for group study rooms can be made in person at the MVC Library Circulation Desk. A student ID card must be shown when the reservation is made. Reservations can be made one week in advance.

Policies and Practices:

  • Reservations are limited to a total of 2 hours per person per room per day.  Requests for additional time will be handled on a case by case basis at the library Circulation Desk.
  • A group that is more than 15 minutes late forfeits the reservation.
  • Groups may not trade rooms or times without coordination with the library Circulation Desk.
  • A student ID or personal ID will be held at the Circulation Desk from every member of the group. The student ID or personal ID will be held until the room is no longer occupied by the group.
  • Food is not allowed. Students may bring in drinks with a cap.
  • Clean up the room before you leave. This includes clearing table of trash items, erasing white boards, and putting chairs back under the table.
  • Quiet, collaborative voices should be used in the group study rooms.
  • The students checking out the room will be held responsible for any damages. Replacement fees will be assessed for any damaged equipment. Cases of deliberate vandalism or abuse will result in the loss of checkout privileges and a report will be filed with Campus Police. If a room is already damaged or equipment is inoperable when checked out, notify the Circulation Desk immediately.
  • MVC Library is not responsible for the loss or theft of personal property. If you leave the room unattended you risk the loss of your possessions. If a room is left unattended for longer than 15 minutes any item(s) in the room will be considered lost and will be delivered to Campus Police.
  • Group Study Rooms are not available for functions such as committee meetings, lectures, or seminars.
  • The Library retains the right to cancel any reservations or ask a group to terminate their stay early if it is deemed in the best interest of library operations.
